An Introduction to Blogging – Part 3

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Having read our previous articles on the topic of blogging, you may be very curious about earning an income through your blog. I feel it must be noted that not everyone has what it takes to create an income-earning blog, because the process can take a bit of work and quite a lot of patience. However, if you are already a small business owner, you know exactly the kind of project that blogging for profit can be. And you may have just what it takes!

In this article I will attempt to outline some of the many ways your blog can earn money for you, but these are not the only ways. If you are a creative, out-of-the-box thinker there’s no reason you can’t simply use these ideas as a jumping off point to get you started.

If your blog is connected to your business, you may experience financial gain from attracting new clients or an increase in sales from your website. It’s possible to make additional money with your blog a number of ways, both directly and indirectly. For instance, you can let other websites and businesses advertise on your blog various ways. One way is through contextual advertising with services such as Google Adsense which scans your blog entries to find relevant advertisements and add links in the text of your blog. Other means for making money with your blog include finding advertisers to sponsor your blog, or joining affiliate programs. Some bloggers have also had success asking their readers for donations or selling subscription offers, however this would require an extensive reader following or significant expertise in your field.

More indirect and long-term financial benefits of your blog can include consulting offers, speaking opportunities, offline and online writing jobs, as well as other employment opportunities. In addition, having a successful and popular blog can help to secure a publishing contract if you want to write a book, or it can attract others in your field and help to create valuable business partnerships.

Overall, having an entrepreneurial mindset is essential to creating an income-earning blog. You must be passionate, determined and driven as well as flexible, in the blogging business as much as any other. Like any other business you also must know how to spot an opportunity and when to take advantage of it. As a general rule, you want to focus on generating traffic to your blog before you try to generate money. What good are advertisements if too few people are going to view them?

I hope this series of articles has been helpful and informative. Please feel free to join and tell the WomensInfoProducts.com community all about your adventures in blogging and business!

An Introduction to Blogging – Part 2

Blog  If you have read my previous articles about the New Media Revolution of blogging, you may now understand just how widespread it is and you may also have a basic idea of the impact it can have on your personal business. But you’re probably asking “How can I get started?”

We here at WomenInfoProducts.com may be able to offer some general advice and tips to help get you started, but if you need a more comprehensive set of instructions and information you can get better acquainted with the process using other online resources, such as eBooks.

First, there are many blogging platforms you can use. If you already have a website for your business and you want to host you own blog there are various software programs for this purpose, such as b2evolution, Lifetype, or Serendipity. Otherwise, you can create a blog for free on one of several blog-hosting platforms, like LiveJournal or WordPress.

While blog-hosting websites will have various templates you may choose from, hosting your blog on your business website can be more complicated. If you decide to use a blogging application such as one of those listed above, many of them will provide a limited variety of templates for free use and easy installation. However, if you want your blog to stand out, and you can afford to be more unique, you can also choose to hire someone to design a custom theme for you and in some cases even a company logo for your website.

Regardless of the look and design of your blog, it’s very important to keep it updated every day. As stated in the previous blog entry which inspired this more in-depth look at blogging, you can choose to write several blog posts at once and upload one whenever you need to rather than posting them all at once. This can help you take advantage of any burst of creativity that supplies several blog topic ideas and also gives you topics to fall back on any day you find yourself without new ideas. You don’t necessarily have to spend time every day writing your blog.

You also need to make sure that your topics are relevant to the purpose of your website and your business, if your website is about personal finance chances are visitors to your site will not be interested in reading a blog entry about the Olympic games (unless of course you can find some way to link it to personal finance). For many subjects, you may be able to find a decent supply of blog topics by finding related news articles.

I hope you have found this article helpful, I intend to continue this series with a follow-up article describing various means to profit through your personal or business blog so please return to learn more! Feel free to let us know about your experiences with blogging, whether you are just starting out or already have a successful blog in operation.

An Introduction to Blogging – Part 1

Monday, August 11th, 2008

You can hardly go anywhere on the internet without seeing references to one blog or another. You may even hear about them from colleagues or friends, even perhaps your own kids or your parents! There are blogs in every nook and cranny of the web, written by people all around the world and regarding every topic you can imagine. Blogging knows no age requirements or limits, no restrictions of race, gender, or religion. All that you need to start a blog is a computer with internet access and something to say!

Blogs can also offer you numerous opportunities when it comes to your business, or you can even make extra money writing your personal blog. If you’d like to know more about blogging, but are embarrassed to ask more knowledgeable co-workers and friends, have no fear for you may start right here!

A “Blog” (short for “web log”) is simply a website created to regularly post your thoughts, commentary, reviews or videos that you would like to share with others, or just what you have been doing in your life and work. It can be much like a journal, but one that your brother or sister doesn’t have to hide under the bed to read! It can be open to anyone on the internet or as on some websites, exclusively accessible by your friends. The content is completely your discretion and your entries may be as long or as short as you desire.

There are more blogs on the internet than can be counted. Technorati, an internet search engine designed expressly for blogs, claimed to be tracking more than 30 million blogs back in 2006 and blogging has only gained popularity since then. There are now also video-blogs (“vlogs”) taking websites like YouTube.com by storm, as well as Artlogs, Photoblogs, Sketchblogs, and linklogs. A blog written from a mobile device can even be called a moblog.

As a sort of social phenomenon, researchers have actually been analyzing the dynamics involved with blog popularity, as well as their social properties and implications. Time Magazine’s controversial choice to name “YOU” as their Person of the Year, due to the amount of people using the internet to aid in the advancement of the information age, represents just how significant this trend in personal expression and free speech has become. Quite simply, if one person in the world knows something and posts it on the internet, in theory, everyone can access it and learn from it if they want to, which can have an extraordinary impact on the collective knowledge of the human race! There are many who praise the internet for this capability, and some others (various governments or corporations) who would like to regulate it and control access to information and education.

It is possible to use your blog not only for the spread of information, but also for profit or acclaim. Many bloggers offer advertisement space to other businesses and websites or even use that space to advertise their own businesses. Some bloggers have even become similar to local celebrities in their chosen genre, for their experience, expertise, and insight. As well, a select few have come to be recognized and employed by mainstream media or even progressed to publishing books based on the topics they had addressed in their blogs.

But with possibly close to 100 million blogs operating on the internet today, you may be wondering how you can compete with them and attract regular, repeat readers to your own. It’s not impossible. With just a bit of research, a few important tips, and maybe a little patience and determination, you too can create a blog that will satisfy your personal and/or business goals. Please look for further articles here regarding blogs in the near future to continue learning how to make yours the best it can be!

Place a Blog on your Web Site

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

There is a New Media Revolution happening right now and you should ensure you take part in it, for the sake of your business. If you have a web site that does not have a blog on it, then make some enquiries and alterations right now. Why? I here you ask, I don't want to share any of my trade secrets! Well the answer is really quite simple. If you have an active blog and ideally you should make an entry every day, Google and the other search engines recognise that. The spiders or robots the go out notice that your web site is having new content added to it on a regular basis.

What that does for your web site is that it helps to gain the respect of the search engines and what that does is gives your site a higher ranking in the unpaid or natural listing, so in the long run it can work out to very cheap advertising for you to gain quality internet traffic to your site.

Make sure you make the content of your blog relevant to your subject. What you can do with the blogs is post date them, so you don't have to sit down and make an entry every day, you can actually write all your blog post on one day for the whole week or the entire month if you like, then you only have to schedule this task into your daily activities once a week or once a month.

If you are a woman in business or interested in venturing into your own business, please know you are welcome to visit my site for information or interact on this blog, as I have been in business for myself for over 25 years, I am sure to have some knowledge that could assist you, so please post your questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability or point you in the right direction to obtain the answer you need.

Thank you for spending the time reading my post, I look forward to interacting with you.
